Come visit us in the heart of the Adirondacks for a truly unique experience! The purpose of this special program is to introduce African Americans from cities near the Adirondack Park to the Adirondack Experience (ADKX) and its beautiful setting. Visit the ADKX and enjoy a safe, fun, and memorable day – all at no cost to you! Help us get the word out about all that ADKX has to offer members of the African American community.
Multiple trips are scheduled to and from Albany, with additional trips from Utica and Syracuse on September 23, 2023.
These bus trips are underwritten in part by Hydro-Quebec.
What is there to do at the ADKX?
With more than 20 buildings nestled across 120 acres overlooking Blue Mountain Lake, our open-air campus offers everyone something to do. Step into the rich history of this region as you browse the museum, row an authentic guide boat, break up a logjam, climb a classic ADK fire tower, or enjoy a family-friendly hike to Minnow Pond.
How much does it cost to participate in the trips?
There is no cost to attend. The cost of bus transportation to and from the ADKX, as well as museum admission, is covered by the ADKX.
Can I register for more than one person?
Yes, groups and families are welcome to participate in the bus program. One person should register on behalf of the group and provide the names and ages of each group member.
For groups larger than 10, please contact Mary Alice O’Connor, Outreach Representative, at maoconnor@theadkx.org.
Do I need to make a reservation to participate?
Yes! Space is limited and reservations must be made in advance. Please click on a date above to register!
What is provided with my reservation?
Each reservation includes transportation to and from the ADKX as well as a general admission ticket to the ADKX exhibits. Your general admission ticket allows access to all open exhibits – no special ticket is required!
We recommend packing your own lunch or purchasing lunch from the ADKX Lake View Café. The museum café is open from 10 AM to 3 PM daily and serves soup, sandwiches, and light fare.
I completed the reservation form however my plans changed and now I need to cancel. What should I do?
Let us know so we can open your seat for someone else! Please contact Mary Alice O’Connor, Outreach Representative, at maoconnor@theadkx.org to make changes or cancel your reservation.
Is there an age limit?
The bus trips are open to participants of all ages! Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
What should I wear?
There is no dress code at ADKX and visitors are welcome to wear what makes them comfortable. Participants are encouraged to explore the outdoor exhibits, hiking trails, and boating opportunities, so we recommend wearing layered clothes as well as closed-toed shoes or sneakers to make the most of your visit.
