En 1933, la Dama del Lago, cuyo verdadero nombre era Mabel Smith Douglass, cruz\u00f3 el lago Placid en una barca de remos y nunca regres\u00f3. Treinta a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, casi al d\u00eda siguiente, unos buceadores locales descubrieron su cuerpo perfectamente conservado a treinta metros bajo la superficie del agua.
