SUMMARY:John Collins Memorial Lecture: Wintering: The Nature of Resilience in Landscape
DESCRIPTION:The paintings in this body of work\, “Wintering\,” examine the metaphorical connection between nature\, my personal wintering\, and my experiences of the sublime. Through the materiality and language of paint\, light\, and subject matter\, grief is reconciled; hope and resilience prevail. Historical comparisons and research of artists who have painted Northern winter landscapes deepen my connection with my genre and role as an Adirondack landscape painter. The intention of this body of work is for the audience to find a personal connection to their own wintering through the lens of nature and with that connection\, find hope and resiliency of their own. \nThis program is free. \nAbout The Speaker: \nIngrid Van Slyke (b. 1967\, Washington D.C) received her M.F.A in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2023. She has exhibited her work in international and national group exhibitions throughout the country including New York\, Connecticut\, Maine\, Massachusetts\, and Illinois as well as solo shows. Her work has been juried into the highly prestigious Pastel Society of America “Enduring Brilliance” exhibitions held at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City. She has been a guest speaker for the National Association of Women Artists “Arts in Conversation” series. Ingrid teaches soft pastel painting to individuals and groups and has been a guest teacher at the New York State Art Teacher’s Summer Institute at The Great Camp Sagamore in Upstate NY. Her work is currently represented at Gallery 46 in Lake Placid\, NY. Ingrid lives with her family in Lake Placid\, NY\, and finds inspiration for her landscape paintings from the beautiful natural environment of the Adirondacks. \n** Before the program\, at 5:00 PM\, join us for our annual reception in memory of John “Johnny” Collins Jr.\, former Trustee and Executive Director of the museum.** \n  \n  \n  \n
