SUMMARY:Minnow Pond Trail with Susan Hopkins
DESCRIPTION:This easy to moderate 3/4 mile trail is located right on ADKX property. Meander down to the ADKX boathouse\, located on Minnow Pond\, while taking in the scenery and learning more about the fungi growing in the Adirondacks. \nSusan Hopkins has learned to identify fungi through her 40-year membership in the New Jersey Mycological Association. She focuses on identification with a special interest in all of the tooth fungi (fungi with spines under their cap). Susan is also a “dyer\,” having learned the use of various species of wild fungi to dye wool. She lives in the Adirondack Park and continues to study the local fungi and offer lectures\, walks\, and demonstrations on fungi and mushroom dyeing.

SUMMARY:Coney Mountain with Ed Kanze
DESCRIPTION:Coney Mountain rises between the villages of Tupper Lake and Long Lake on the border between Franklin and Hamilton Counties. The trail is a 1.1 walk to the summit and passes through beautiful woods\, including a stand of old-growth sugar maples. The 360 degree view from the open\, rocky summit is stunning. Along the way\, we will discuss what makes the Adirondacks unique\, and how to best protect this Park. Elevation gain is a little more than 523 feet. Altitude at the summit is 2267 feet. \n  \nEd Kanze is a naturalist\, author\, and Adirondack Guide with more than forty years’ experience leading walks in wild places. A former National Park Ranger\, he worked at Acadia National Park and Gulf Islands National Seashore\, served as Curator of the Trailside Nature Museum in Cross River\, New York\, taught field ecology for the National Audubon Society\, and was senior naturalist at the Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining\, New York. Ed has deep roots in the Adirondacks. His great-great-great-great grandparents Daniel and Hannah Brownell carved a farm out of the woods along the Sacandaga River\, ca. 1795. \nEd is the author of many books as well as a longtime nature newspaper columnist\, magazine columnist\, photographer\, lecturer\, and videographer. A graduate of Middlebury College\, Vermont\, Ed is well- traveled in his 6-million-acre Adirondack Mountain backyard and has led international trips to Australia\, New Zealand\, and Alaska.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special guided tour with Penny Harr\, Exhibit Assistant at the Adirondack Experience and author of the forthcoming biography Anne LaBastille: A Biography of the Woodswoman. \nAs part of our continued celebration of the 50th anniversary of Woodswoman\, these tours offer a deeper look into the life and work of Anne LaBastille. \nPenny will lead visitors through selections from the museum’s library and archival collections before heading to Life in the Adirondacks\, our main exhibit exploring the Adirondack Park and its people\, to visit Anne LaBastille’s cabin. Drawing on her extensive research and personal insight\, Penny brings to life Anne LaBastille’s work as a writer\, wildlife ecologist\, and conservationist\, as well as the independence and vision that defined her time in the Adirondacks. \nAfterwards\, at 3 PM\, Penny will be at ADKX store where you can purchase a signed copy of her forthcoming biography. \nThere is no cost to attend the tour\, but museum admission is required (free for ADKX members). SUMMARY:In the Steps of a Woodswoman: A Paddle on Twitchell Lake
DESCRIPTION:Bring your own boat and join us for a paddle across Twitchell Lake to the former site of Anne LaBastille’s historic cabin\, once a place of solitude\, writing\, and deep connection to the Adirondack landscape.\nFifty years after the first publication of LaBastille’s book Woodswoman\, this guided paddle offers participants the opportunity to experience Twitchell Lake as she did\, followed by a walk through the cabin site and discussion of her life\, work\, and environmental legacy. \nThe round-trip paddle covers approximately 3 miles and takes about 2 hours\, including time on shore. Participants should be prepared for variable lake conditions\, including wind\, and for uneven terrain at the cabin site. \nA brown bag lunch will be provided and can be enjoyed lakeside during the visit. \nTwo guided paddle sessions are available: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00 PM–3:00 PM.\nClick below to register:

Meander down to the ADKX boathouse\, located on Minnow Pond\, while taking in the scenery and learning more about the geology of the Adirondacks. \n  \nDr. Alexander Stewart is an Associate Professor of Geology at St. Lawrence University\, specializing in glacial geology and tree-ring science. A retired U.S. Army veteran\, his research explores environmental histories through landscapes and archaeological sites\, with numerous publications in glacial landforms\, hydrology\, and dendrochronology. \nHe has led field courses across Alaska\, Iceland\, East Africa\, and more\, inspiring students through hands-on exploration. His passion for biodiversity has also led to the co-discovery of six new scorpion species. As national president of Sigma Gamma Epsilon\, he helps shape the future of Earth sciences. Dr. Stewart is a frequent media contributor and continues tree-ring research in the Adirondacks\, often hiking with his family.
