Evan Michelson unveils what she sees as “The Saddest Object in the World“; an equally haunting and beautiful piece of taxidermy, which has been part of her personal collection for many years. A piece so special and unique that it can’t be seen unless she is here to present its history. The Saddest Object in the World is a love/hate story. It is about cruelty and ownership, exploitation and curiosity. It is about the best and the worst of human impulses. It is about how every person connects with every object in their own unique way, and how we interpret the universal stories that these objects have to tell.
Presenter: Evan Michelson is an antiques dealer, essayist, lecturer, award-winning curator and collector of strange, rare, and beautiful objects. She has been the co-owner of Obscura Antiques and Oddities, a landmark in New York City’s East Village, for more than 20 years. Evan was also the co-star of the hit reality TV series Oddities which ran for five seasons on Discovery Science and was a founding board member of Brooklyn’s (now defunct) Morbid Anatomy Museum. Evan has been profiled in the New Yorker, the New York Times and The Financial Times of London. She currently lives in a very old house with her husband, two cats, and a large variety of relics, both human and animal.
