La plupart des Am\u00e9ricains blancs voyaient les Adirondacks comme un endroit si d\u00e9sol\u00e9 que, pour citer un document ancien, \u201cen raison des montagnes, des mar\u00e9cages (sic) et des terres noy\u00e9es, il est impraticable et inhabit\u00e9\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pourtant, en 1900, les Adirondacks accueillaient des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s d'\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9labor\u00e9es pour les familles les plus riches d'Am\u00e9rique, notamment les Vanderbilt, les Rockefeller, les Carnegie, les Whitney et les Morgan. Theodore Roosevelt a m\u00eame h\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la pr\u00e9sidence lors d'une promenade de minuit en buckboard au c\u0153ur du parc. Depuis plus d'un si\u00e8cle, les Adirondacks sont rest\u00e9s une destination c\u00e9l\u00e8bre qui attire les magnats, les c\u00e9l\u00e9brit\u00e9s et les Am\u00e9ricains ordinaires. Quelles forces ont conduit au d\u00e9veloppement de la r\u00e9gion \u00e0 la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle, et comment l'histoire des Adirondacks interagit-elle avec l'histoire am\u00e9ricaine au sens large ? Originaire de New York et aspirant \u00e0 l'alpinisme maritime, Connor vit actuellement avec sa famille au bord du lac Champlain, dans le parc des Adirondacks. Il est l'historien de Great Camp Sagamore, un site historique national et une ancienne propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de Vanderbilt, o\u00f9 il dirige tous les programmes d'histoire pour plusieurs milliers de visiteurs chaque \u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>De mani\u00e8re plus g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, et par le biais de divers formats, Connor utilise ce r\u00f4le pour concevoir et mettre en \u0153uvre des moyens innovants d'enseigner l'histoire de l'environnement, l'histoire de l'\u00e2ge du Gilded et l'histoire des classes, du capitalisme et de l'in\u00e9galit\u00e9 \u00e0 divers publics de l'histoire publique.   Avant de passer son doctorat \u00e0 Yale, Connor a obtenu une ma\u00eetrise au Dartmouth College, o\u00f9 sa th\u00e8se portait sur les influences diasporiques sur la pens\u00e9e politique de Frederick Douglass. Entre autres bourses, prix et r\u00e9compenses, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 finaliste du Louis Pelzer Memorial Award, prix national r\u00e9compensant les meilleurs travaux d'\u00e9tudiants de troisi\u00e8me cycle. Connor a enseign\u00e9 \u00e0 Yale, \u00e0 la Southern Connecticut State University et au Yale College Writing Center.
