Comment expliquer le foisonnement cr\u00e9atif qui a marqu\u00e9 les ann\u00e9es pass\u00e9es par Georgia O'Keeffe au lac George, un intervalle qui compte parmi les plus prolifiques de ses sept d\u00e9cennies de carri\u00e8re ? Un aper\u00e7u de son \u0153uvre de cette p\u00e9riode r\u00e9v\u00e8le une abondance \u00e9tonnante : environ deux cents peintures sur toile et sur papier, accompagn\u00e9es de nombreux croquis et pastels.<\/p>\n

Le lac George a \u00e9t\u00e9 pour O'Keeffe un puissant lieu de stimulation artistique. Bon nombre des sujets botaniques qui allaient d\u00e9finir son \u0153uvre ont d'abord pris forme sur ce site. En tant que lieu de retraite de la ville de New York, il lui permettait non seulement d'entretenir un contact soutenu avec le monde naturel, mais aussi de ressentir un profond sentiment d'appartenance, un ancrage essentiel \u00e0 sa vision moderniste en devenir. Mais ce n'\u00e9tait pas seulement un refuge ; le lac George fonctionnait \u00e9galement comme un lien social, anim\u00e9 par une circulation continue de visiteurs.<\/p>\n

Dans ce cadre aux multiples facettes, O'Keeffe a abord\u00e9 de nouveaux sujets tout en r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant plus d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment \u00e0 son identit\u00e9 et \u00e0 son ind\u00e9pendance artistique, y compris \u00e0 la perspective imaginaire d'avoir son propre studio. Cette pr\u00e9sentation examine les forces qui ont fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 les ann\u00e9es pass\u00e9es au lac George : l'\u00e9volution de ses sujets, les dynamiques sociales changeantes qui l'entouraient et la mani\u00e8re dont le site lui-m\u00eame a nourri sa pratique cr\u00e9ative.<\/p>\n

Yaritza Martinez Pule<\/strong> a rejoint le Georgia O'Keeffe Museum en 2022 en tant qu'assistante de conservation apr\u00e8s avoir b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 d'une bourse de recherche Fulbright. Auparavant, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9e de recherche en conservation au Museo Franz Mayer \u00e0 Mexico et assistante de conservation \u00e0 la 80WSE Gallery, une galerie affili\u00e9e \u00e0 l'universit\u00e9 de New York, o\u00f9 elle a organis\u00e9 des expositions avec l'Institute of Fine Arts, le Costume Institute et le Steinhardt's Department of Art.
