We\u2019ll walk a couple of miles along beautiful trails and among fine old trees, including eastern hemlocks, red spruce, northern white-cedar, sugar maples, and yellow birch. The beautiful woods here will give us a chance to work on tree identification and give us a chance to look for forest birds and amphibians. Rich Lake and associated streams will offer further beauty and interest. The Newcomb Adirondack Interpretive Center is run by SUNY-ESF and hosts a variety of excellent programs year-round.<\/p>\n

Ed Kanze<\/strong>\u00a0is a naturalist, author, and Adirondack Guide with more than forty years\u2019 experience leading walks in wild places. A former National Park Ranger, he worked at Acadia National Park and Gulf Islands National Seashore, served as Curator of the Trailside Nature Museum in Cross River, New York, taught field ecology for the National Audubon Society, and was senior naturalist at the Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, New York. Ed has deep roots in the Adirondacks.
