In celebration of the 50th<\/sup> anniversary of Anne LaBastille’s Woodswoman<\/em>, join us for a panel discussion reflecting on her life, writing, and enduring legacy in the Adirondacks.<\/h2>\n

This conversation brings together Leslie Surprenant, friend of LaBastille and executor of her estate, and author Penny Harr, whose forthcoming biography Anne LaBastille: A Biography of the Woodswoman<\/em><\/a> offers new insight into LaBastille’s life and work. The panel will be moderated by Nathalie Thill, Executive Director of the Adirondack Center for Writing.<\/p>\n

Together, the speakers will explore LaBastille’s impact as a writer, environmental advocate, and independent voice in the Adirondack region, as well as the continued relevance of Woodswoman<\/em> fifty years after its publication.<\/p>\n

Registration is free and not required, though recommended.<\/em><\/p>\n

Penny Harr<\/strong> is a seventh-generation Adirondacker who grew up among the region\u2019s mountains and lakes. She is an Exhibit Assistant at the Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake.
\nIn addition to being an avid reader, she enjoys kayaking, hiking, and exploring historical sites around the Northeast. Her love of the Adirondacks and its preservation make her a kindred spirit with Anne LaBastille. She lives in the Adirondack Park where she raised her two children.<\/p>\n

Leslie Surprenant<\/strong> is a retired environmental biologist, professional ski instructor, and NYS Licensed Guide. She was a long-time friend of Anne LaBastille, enjoying many camping trips and adventures with her. Leslie was Anne\u2019s estate executor.<\/p>\n

Nathalie Costa Thill<\/strong> has been the Executive Director of the Adirondack Center for Writing, the literary organization serving the entire six-million-acre Adirondack Park, pretty much since its inception in 1999. She launched ACW\u2019s most beloved programs including our high school writing retreat, our prison writing program, our Howl Story Slam series, our Raining Poetry and PoemVilliage programs, the Kickass Writers Festival, our Anne LaBastille Memorial Writers Residency and the Anne laBastille Women’s Writing Retreat.<\/p>\n
