Onsite Housing

Onsite housing is available for some seasonal employees. Each housing unit includes a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Room occupancies are either single or double. Hiking trails and other outdoor recreational activities are available right at your doorstep.

Reciprocal Program

Our reciprocal program allows staff members to visit roughly 50 museums and attractions in the Adirondack Region for FREE or a discounted rate and bring up to 3 guests. Not only do you get to work on a gorgeous campus with a diverse and motivated team, you get to explore as well.

Director of Advancement

The Director of Advancement will serve as the museum’s principal development strategist and fundraiser and will report to the Executive Director while building a network of new support for the mission of ADKX and stewarding its longtime donors. This leader will oversee donor relations, membership, major gifts, planned giving, grant writing, and special events as well as fundraising for capital and endowment campaigns. ADKX’s current goal is $1.5 million in annual support and ADKX is in the planning phase of a $25 million capital campaign for educational, exhibition, infrastructure, and endowment growth. New exhibitions will focus on African American History, climate change, and the environment as well as other topics. The Director of Advancement will manage a dedicated team of three to four people, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture aligned with the museum’s mission. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Advancement will contribute to organizational strategy, ensure the sustainability of fundraising programs, and represent ADKX with credibility, diplomacy, and enthusiasm.

Capital Campaign Coordinator (2-Year Position)

The ADKX is embarking on an exciting capital campaign and is in need of a two-year term, part-time (21-24 hrs/week), year-round coordinator to help oversee all aspects of the capital campaign.The primary responsibilities of the Capital Campaign Coordinator include assisting the Director of Institutional Advancement and the volunteer Capital Campaign committee with planning and coordinating the campaign. The Capital Campaign Coordinator would manage the day-to-day operations of the campaign, research and compile detailed donor and prospect profiles, reports, lists, and other related information for meetings, events, and strategic planning purposes.

Exhibit Assistant – I

We are currently looking for outgoing and enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for sharing the diverse stories of the Adirondacks to our visitors to apply for our seasonal Exhibit Assistant – I position. Exhibit Assistants make a valuable contribution to the visitor experience through warm friendly attitudes and meaningful exhibit-based conversation. The position requires continual public contact, cleaning duties, and security duties, including locking up buildings, at the conclusion of each day. Staff may work in our exciting Life in the Adirondacks exhibit, our world-class art exhibit, Artists & Inspiration in the Wild along with our indoor and outdoor activity areas. The Exhibit Assistant I position will be assigned to exhibits and activity sites on ADKX’s main campus, and is not eligible for shifts at the ADKX Boathouse or on Minnow Pond Trail.

Exhibit Assistant – II

We are currently looking for outgoing and enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for sharing the diverse stories of the Adirondacks to our visitors to apply for our seasonal Exhibit Assistant – II position. Exhibit Assistants – II are an integral role at the ADKX as they ensure each of our visitors feel welcomed and informed, and provide a level of security over our exhibits. Staff may work in our exciting, Life in the Adirondacks exhibit, our world-class art exhibit, Artists & Inspiration in the Wild, or on our Minnow Pond Trail and Boathouse where visitors are able to take out various styles of Adirondack Boats. We also have a number of other indoor and outdoor activity areas where Exhibit Assistants – II will work to create a memorable experience for our visitors. Exhibit Assistants – II are required to complete trainings for regional, cultural and natural history, Certified Interpretive Guide, Wilderness First Aid (2 year certification from SOLO Schools), and Boathouse and Trail training.

Retail Assistant

We are currently looking for friendly and enthusiastic individuals who have a passion for Adirondack history to apply for our seasonal Retail Assistant positions. Retail Assistants play a vital role at the ADKX by providing our visitors with exceptional customer service. The Museum Store is typically the last stop of our visitor experience. Our Retail Assistants ensure our visitors leave with a lasting positive impression and reminders of their visit at the ADKX.

We are looking for a motivated individual to help maintain the cleanliness of our exquisite campus and exhibitions as a seasonal, part-time Facilities Cleaning Assistant. This position plays a pivotal role at our organization, as the Facilities Cleaning Assistant is responsible for cleaning exhibits, buildings and campus. This includes but not limited to all of the museum’s exhibits, collection storage facility, restroom areas, office buildings, retail operations, café operations, residences, grounds and parking lots.

We are looking for a friendly and energetic individual for our seasonal Admissions Assistant position. The Admissions Assistant will act as a brand ambassador for the Adirondack Experience. They will provide information to visitors, both in person and on the campus main phone line. The person in this position is the “voice” of the ADKX and will respond to all phone calls and visitor questions in an informed, cheerful, and professional manner, leaving a positive impression. This person must be knowledgeable about ADKX hours, admission fees, exhibitions, programs, events, and other operations; able to direct callers to the appropriate staff extension when necessary; encourage people to visit and/or come back; and have knowledge of the area’s recreational, lodging, dining, and other offerings.


Becas

The Adirondack Experience awards three short-term research fellowships annually. Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year will be accepted starting October 1, 2024 with a final deadline of February 1, 2025.
