In honor of the 50th anniversary of the release of Anne LaBastille’s bestseller Woodswoman, the theme for Homeschool Day 2026 is Women of Science. Enjoy all our wonderful exhibits PLUS special educational programming inspired by one of our region’s most well-known women of science, Anne LaBastille.

 

Check in begins at 9:30am. Free admission is extended to all members of a party that includes at least one homeschooled child between the ages of 5 and 17.

 

EVENT SCHEDULE

SUNY ESF’s Adirondack Interpretive Center: Guided nature walks (weather permitting)

Join environmental educator Eliza Philips on our Minnow Pond trail to learn more about the beautiful place we call home. The trail is ¾ of a mile, and the walks will last roughly 1 hour. CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.

12pm, best for 12 and under, 2pm, best for 13 and above

Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District: The Great Migration

Join our local soil and water conservation educator to learn about the adventures migratory birds with a fun hands-on activity.

Best for Kindergarten-6th Grade. 11am, 1pm, 3pm

Penny Harr: Anne Labastille: A Biography of The Woodswoman Author Talk

Long-time ADKX staff member Penny Harr is celebrating the release of her first book. Join her to dive into the story of Anne LaBastille and discover what goes into writing a biography.

Best for middle and high school students. 11am, 12pm

Adirondack Watershed Institute: Activity Table

Join AWI to learn about watersheds, and how we can take care of them with a watershed model and several interactive activities.

Adirondack Center For Loon Conservation: info table

Learn about one of the Adirondacks’ most iconic birds, and how we can aid in conservation efforts.

SUNY Potsdam Professor of Anthropology Dr. Hadley Kruczek-Aaron led an archeology field school here at ADKX in June of 2026. Visit her near our Log Hotel exhibit to find out about her and her students’ work and what they discovered.
