Celebrating 50 Years of Woodswoman: The Life and Legacy of Anne LaBastille

Join the Adirondack Experience for a special multi-day series celebrating the 50th anniversary of Anne LaBastille’s landmark book, Woodswoman.

This series of events offers an in-depth exploration of the legendary wildlife ecologist, writer, and conservationist through the eyes of those who knew her and those who have studied her enduring impact. The programming features author and ADKX Exhibit Assistant Penny Harr, who will present her forthcoming biography, Anne LaBastille: A Biography of the Woodswoman. Guests are invited to participate in a variety of immersive experiences, including:

Behind-the-scenes tours of the ADKX library collections and LaBastille’s reconstructed cabin.

A guided paddle on Twitchell Lake to the remote site where her original cabin once stood.

A book signing with Penny Harr.

An anniversary panel discussion featuring Harr, Leslie Surprenant (executor of LaBastille’s estate), and moderator Nathalie Thill of the Adirondack Center for Writing.
