WHAT IS A SOLAR ECLIPSE?

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. People viewing the eclipse from locations where the Moon’s shadow completely covers the Sun – known as the path of totality – will experience a total solar eclipse. The sky will become dark, as if it were dawn or dusk. Weather permitting, people along the path of totality will see the Sun’s corona, or outer atmosphere, which is usually obscured by the bright face of the Sun.

WHAT TIME WILL THE SOLAR ECLIPSE HAPPEN?

  • Partial Eclipse Starts: 2:12 PM
  • Totality Starts: 3:24 PM
  • Totality Duration: 2 minutes, 40 seconds

Be Prepared

We expect a large influx of visitors to the region for the Total Solar Eclipse, which could result in significant traffic delays. We highly encourage carpooling to reduce congestion.

With a large influx of visitors coming to the area to view the solar eclipse, it is important to be prepared. Keep extra layers, snacks, and water in your car and don’t forget to fill up on gas before you go. Plan your activities ahead of time and make sure to check weather updates.

Due to the expected increase in number of visitors around the region, local destinations, restaurants, and attractions may be more crowded. Be prepared to change your route around the region based on conditions.
