The African American Experience in the Adirondacks
New Exhibition Coming in 2027
In 2027, the Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX), will open a new permanent, interactive exhibition, The African American Experience in the Adirondacks. It will be a comprehensive exploration of the stories of African Americans ranging from the role they played in the settlement and development of the Adirondacks all the way up to efforts currently underway to guarantee that African Americans have equal access to the incredible recreational opportunities the region has to offer. The opening of the exhibition will help celebrate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in New York State. It will represent a milestone in ADKX’s on-going efforts to enrich everyone’s understanding of the significant contributions the Black community and other diverse communities have made to the Adirondack’s development over time.
