As the country grapples with stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus, we in the Adirondack community are facing closed businesses and schools, increased demand for medical services, shortages in grocery stores, unemployment, and restrictions on the ways we interact with each other. The pandemic has made changes trivial and profound in each of our lives. The Adirondack Experience is collecting materials that document how Adirondackers are living and working during the crisis. Your photos, objects, and written and recorded stories will help future historians understand this moment in time, and allow us to share with each other as our history unfolds.
Tell us your story—how are you and your family coping with the changes in your daily lives? How are you spending your time? What are your greatest challenges? When did you realize that the situation was serious? Every Adirondacker has a story. Send us your stories, photos, and objects that best represent your experiences during this unprecedented moment in our history.
Digital content such as photographs, social media posts, video, and written or recorded accounts or diaries may be submitted using the form at the end of this page.
Contact the Collections Department if you have any physical objects to contribute: signs and posters (i.e. businesses closed, social distancing guidelines, etc.); restaurant take-out menus; medical gear (a nurse’s worn-out crocs, etc.); home lesson plans; artwork; grocery lists; homemade facemasks; needlework and other hobbies; etc.
The Adirondack Experience is collecting materials to document the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on New York’s Adirondack Mountain region and the local community’s response. Please read and agree to the following guidelines before submitting your content:
