Episode 35: What is Rustic?

In this episode, local rustic maker Larry Jenne talks about what rustic means to him, we chat with some kids about their experience in our temporary rustic exhibit Natural Beauty, and Joseph Bryere’s Clock Case gets an object spotlight. Whether you’ve been a rustic enthusiast for decades, or aren’t sure you know what the word rustic means, this episode of ADKX-tra Credit is sure to inspire you to get outside, get into nature, and start creating. Find more of Larry’s work at ADK Rustiques on Facebook and Instagram, or follow this link.

Lectura en voz alta.  Los alumnos pueden seguir la grabación mientras la escuchan. Descargue una copia de la transcripción. Haga clic en AQUÍ para descargar una copia de la transcripción.

Vocabulario: Explorar nuevas palabras. Los alumnos escucharán vocabulario de alto nivel en contexto. Pídales que identifiquen la definición. Haga clic en AQUÍ para la página de vocabulario.

Curriculum: Natural resources, life cycles.  Take a walk on a nature trail, in the park, around the neighborhood, or even on the playground, and try to find some natural resources to create art with. Remember not to peel the bark off of living trees or pick any living plants to create your art. Focus on things you can pick up off the ground, like Larry does! If you don’t have access to a nature space close by, take a cue from Larry’s work with found and recycled objects, and see what you can find indoors that isn’t being used anymore to create your art. Things like extra popsicle sticks, clean recyclables, and broken toys might be a good place to start!
